☆Grammar and Vocabulary
①Thanks for making dinner to tonight. It was great.
感謝の理由・ひと言添える
英語の感謝には「理由」が必要。Thank you ~, Thanks ~ には「何に対して感謝しているのか」を for ~ で加えること。
for は前置詞なので、「～してくれて」と動詞句的内容を述べる場合は「動詞 -ing形」を使う。
またこの文のように、相手が喜ぶ一言を添えるのはステキなアイデアです！
会話の原則「RIKAI（明瞭に話せ！）」
②It was easier than I thought.
than の後ろに節を置く形
比較級の文を作るのは難しくない。いつもの形容詞や副詞を比較級に変えるだけ。
It was easy の easy を比較級にすれば、この文の基本は出来上がる。
そしてこの文では than の後ろに I thought（私が思った）と、節が使われていることに注意。「私が思ったより」は日本語でもよく使われるフレーズ。

☆Typical Expressions
I appreciate your cooking, but please put the dishes in the sink.
命令文には主語がなく、動詞から文を始める非常に強い意味を持つ形だが、 please をつければ十分丁寧な指示となる。
ここではさらに「感謝」をクッションとして使い、指示を和らげている。
①Take off your shoes, please.
Wash your hands, please.
Empty your pockets, please.
→ please は文末に加えることもできる。
②Make sure to lock the door, OK?
Pass the soy sauce, will you [can you / yeah / would you]?
→ 命令文の文末に語句を加え軽い疑問文にすることにより、気軽な印象にすることができる。
③Don’t play with your food.
Don’t sit in this area.
Don’t run with scissors.
Don’t talk back.
→ 動詞の前に don’t を置き「Don’t + 動詞~」とすることによって「禁止」を表すことができる。
④Never leave the knife out like this.
→ Never ~ は、Don’t ~ よりもさらに強い禁止で「決して～するな」
Don’t you ever ~ と、never を not ever に分解する形もあるが、これは極端に強い激情的な「禁止」となる。
★Practice
D: Okay everyone. It’s time for practice, are you ready to go? Okay. Let’s listen to a few examples as I give you “strong intonation” versus “light and soft intonation”. Maybe you can hear the difference.
– Take off your shoes. (strong intonation)
– Take off your shoes, please. (light and soft intonation)
Okay, now let’s practice together.
– Take off your shoes, please.
– Wash your hands, please.
– Empty your pockets, please.
R: Let’s do a few more. Hear the ending to the sentences that we add like “OK?” or “will you?” “yeah?” They act to lighten a sentence. Let’s try together.
– Make sure to lock the door, OK?
Do you see how that immediately lightened the phrase? Let’s continue.

– Pass the soy source, yeah?

D: Okay. These next few use “don’t” for something you want to avoid them doing. So, let’s practice these.
– Don’t play with your food.

– Don’t talk back.
R: Okay. Let’s try one last one. This one, we’ll use “never”, so let’s try with a serious tone.

また作ってください。- もちろん、喜んで。
※ I’d love to. は、I’d like to. = I would like to. の強調表現です！like（好き）が love（大好き）にグレードアップした感じですね♡
**appreciate: 感謝する
I appreciate your cooking, but please put the dishes in the sink.
あなたが料理をしてくれたことには感謝しますが、お皿はシンクに入れてください。
**leave: 残したまま去る
And never leave the knife out like this.
決してナイフをこんなふうに放置してはなりません。
※ leave the knife out は目的語説明型（SVOC）の文です。「the knife = out にして leave（去る）」ですね！
leave は意味の捉え方がいろいろあります。復習しておきましょう！
**drawer: 引き出し
**put it back in the drawer: 引き出しに戻す
Just wash it and put it back in the drawer.
洗って引き出しに戻しておくだけでいいです。
