likely は like ~ (～のような) を語源とする単語
広く「可能性が高い」ことを表すため、
「(これから) ～しそう」
「～する傾向がある」
にもなる
② liable
He’s liable to make mistakes when he’s tired.
liable は「法律上の責任・義務がある」ということ
そのため liable to ~ は「悪い」傾向 (～しやすい、～しがちだ) を表す
prone to ~ (～しがちだ)
もややネガティブなことに多く使われる
