1⃣ あなたは玩具メーカーの社員。新製品「ソノトーリさん」の企画説明を求められました。応答してください。
Facilitator: Please go ahead.

①この新しい商品「ソノトーリさん」は、テレビに向かって文句を言い続ける人たちをなだめるために作られました。
This new product, Sonotori-san, was created to calm people who ( ) keep complaining at the TV.
**calm: ～をなだめる
・people 以下は関係代名詞節による修飾
関係代名詞節 who ~ は keep の主語位置に空所 ( ) がある「( ) はテレビに向かって文句を言い続ける」
その空所と people が組み合わされ「テレビに向かって文句を言い続ける – 人々」
②彼らが何を言っても、ただ「ソノトーリ」と返してくれます。私たちはどのような改良のアイデアにもオープンです。
**respond: ～と返す、～と返答する
It simply responds, “Sonotori,” to whatever they say. We’re open to any ideas for improvement.
・whatever they say は「譲歩」を表す「彼らが何と言おうと」
・We’re open to ~ は「私たちは〜を受け入れる用意がある」(Lesson 53)
2⃣ 友人を自宅に読んで食事会をしています。「全部美味しい」と喜ぶ友人に牛テールスープを勧めましょう。
Friend: Everything’s so great. Thank you.

①この牛テールスープ、食べてみない？午前中ずっと作っていたんだ。
Would you like to try this oxtail soup? I spent all morning cooking it.
**oxtail: 牛テール
・Would you like to try ~? は、食べ物をすすめる典型表現 (Lesson 54)
・spend ~ +「動詞-ing形」は「…をしながら〜を費やす」
②お肉はとてもやわらかく仕上がったし、煮汁もこくはあるけど重すぎないよ。きっとすごく楽しんでもらえると思うよ。
**turn out ~: ～に仕上がる、結局～ということになる
**broth: 煮汁、だし汁
**rich: コクがある
The meat turned out really tender, and the broth is rich but not too heavy. I think you’ll really enjoy it.
・The meat ~ の文は、説明型オーバーラッピング (SVC)
The meat = really tender (ということになった)
