☆GRAMMAR AND VOCABULARY
指定ルール
Honestly, I think they make a great couple.
正直なところ、私は彼らがとてもお似合いのカップルになると思います。
honestly は話し手の発言態度を表す表現 – 「正直なところ」
こうした表現は文頭が定位置
それは、英語には「指定ルール: 指定は前に置く」があるため
honestly は、発言内容を正直な内容に指定する表現
そのため、後続を指定する文頭に配置される
次の表現にも指定ルールが働いている

割とあからさまでした。
obvious の程度を kind of (ちょっと) が指定する修飾関係
現在完了形のイメージ
They’ve liked each other for a while, haven’t they?
彼らは長い間お互いが好きでしたよね。
現在完了形のイメージは「(今に) 迫ってくる」
この文でも、過去から現在に向けて視線が動いていることがわかる
現在完了形を 使った文の付加疑問文にも慣れること

「尋ねたい・知りたい」と言うことによってきっかけを作る

「知りたい」にはさまざまな言い回しがある
Do you know ~? は最も直接的で単純な聞き方

↑丁寧に響く「知りたい」
I’m dying to know ~ (～をすっごく知りたい)
I’m curious about ~ (～が気になるんだ)
↑カジュアルな表現
③～って本当?

「～って本当？」も、会話を始めるいいきっかけになる
④〜ってどう思う?

あなたはどう思う？
は、相手の意見を聞くカジュアルな言い回し。非常に多用される
きちんと尋ねたいなら、
I’d like to hear your opinion about ~
～についてあなたのご意見を伺いたいの ですが
といった言い回しもできる

[明日の休講を確認する大学生の発言です]
「ねぇ、明日の授業が休講って本当？誰かがそう言ってるのを聞いたんだけど、確かめたいんだ。そのことについて何か聞いている？」
【解答例】
Hey, is it true that class is canceled tomorrow? I heard someone say that, but I want to be sure. Have you heard anything about that?
【解説】
・Is it true that ~? は、たいへんよく使われる言い回し
・I heard someone say that は目的語説明型 (SVOC)。説明語句に動詞原形が使われている
・Have you heard ~? も相手の知識を確認する頻用フレーズ
