みそラーメンを、チャーシュー多めでお願いします。
店員にオーダーする状況
最後の please がとても重要。この please があるだけで、丁寧な・感じのいい客として印象づけることができる
これがなければ、ぶっきらぼうで事務的な感じを受けてしまう
自然に please をつけることができるよう、練習を重ねてください。店員と客は対等の関係。礼儀をわきまえることが肝心
頻度副詞
This place always smells so good.
この場所はいつもすごくいい匂いがします。
always など、頻度副詞の標準的な位置は not と同じ
ここでも動詞 smells の前に使われている
この位置どりは「指定ルール: 指定は前に置く」に従っている
単に「いい匂いがする」ではなく「always レベルでいい匂いがする」と、always が smells so good のレベルを指定する関係にあるため、この位置に置かれている

「表現」とまでは言えない、

もあり。思わず口から出てくるこの2つは、最も頻度の高い聞き返し表現と言ってよいかも

didn’t catch ~ は「～を捕まえ損ねた」
repeat (～を繰り返す) を使った表現もポピュラー

最初の部分を繰り返していただけますか？
Could you repeat the last part?
最後の部分を繰り返していただけますか？
と指定することもできる

wh疑問文の文末は下降調 (↘) が基本だが、相手に聞き返すときには上昇調 (↗)
☆PRACTICAL USAGE
[折り紙の折り方を聞き返しましょう]
…after that, you fold the edge back like this and… (…そのあと、端をこんなふうに折り返して…) と言われて。
「ごめん、もう一度説明してもらえる？折り紙は初めてだから、本当に難しくて。次は何をするの？」

【解説】
・聞き返しの学習でいちばん重要なのは「聞き返していい」という意識を持つこと！
・Sorry, could you repeat that? を反射的に使えたらOK
・be new to ~ は「～に慣れていない・～の初心者だ」という気軽な言い回し
・confusing は、動詞 confuse (～を混乱させる) から派生した形容詞。this を「混乱させるような (内容だ)」と述べている
