1⃣ 友人に電話をしてパーティに誘いましょう。
Friend: Hi. What’s up?
You:
①ねぇ、ちょっとお知らせしたくて電話しているんだけど、今週金曜の夜に何人かでちょっ としたパーティーをする予定なんだ。
Hey, just calling to let you know a few of us are planning a little party this Friday night.
・最初の文は just の前に I’m が省略された気軽な形
・to let you know ~ は「～をあなたにお知らせするために」と、目的語説明型 (SVOC) が使われている
②特別なものじゃなくて – 音楽と、飲みと、おしゃべりするだけ。あなたが来たいかもしれないなと思って。来る？
Nothing special – just music, drinks, and chatting. Thought you might want to join us. You coming?
**chat: おしゃべりする
・Nothing special では、nothing を後ろに置いた special が説明し「何も特別なことではない」
・Thought の文も主語を省いた気楽な形
・You coming? ができれば合格！ (Lesson 61)
2⃣ 友人と街をぶらついていると、お腹が空いてきました。食事に行くことを提案しましょう。
Friend: So, what should we do now?
You:
①ちょっとおなかがすいてきたな。何か食べに行こうよ。この近くにいい店があるんだ。
I’m starting to get a little hungry. Why don’t we go grab something to eat? There’s a good place nearby.
**nearby: 近くに
・get a little hungry は、説明型オーバーラッピング (SVC) の形 -「=a little hungry (になる)」ということ
・Why don’t we ~? は提案を行う気軽な表現 (Lesson 61)
・go grab は go and grab のこと。grab は 「さっさと・さくっと食べる」で、手軽さと早さに焦点がある
②何か食べ物のアレルギーとか、苦手なものってある？
Do you have any food allergies or anything you don’t like?
・アレルギーと嫌いな食べ物の有無を両方一度に尋ねている (Lesson 63)。よく使われる

O: Hey guys. Do you have anything you don’t like?
D: Like for food?
R: Or for people?
O: Food.
D: Of course, sensei. I’m only human but if you’re paying, there’s nothing I won’t eat.
R: Good point.
