**sidewalk: 歩道
You mean the ones on the sidewalk? Yeah, they’re everywhere.

※they’re everywhere はまとめて覚えておきましょう！every- を誇張表現で使っています！「あちこち」ですもんね😊
**hop on ~: ～にぴょんと乗る
**metro: 地下鉄
**figure ~ out: ～を理解する、～を解決する
Yes, that! Maybe I’ll just hop on the metro and figure it out. How hard can it be?
そうそれ！メトロにひょいっと乗って、あとは現地で何とかしようかな。そんなに難しくないでしょ？
**not that simple: それほど単純ではない
**get chaotic: 混乱状態になる
It’s not that simple. That area can get chaotic.
そんなに単純じゃないよ。あの辺りは、ごちゃごちゃして混雑するんだ。
※that simple の that は形容詞 (simple) を修飾しています
**Tell you what.: ちょっと聞いて。/こうしよう。

じゃあこうしよう – 僕も一緒に行くよ。ガレージヒロトのガイドがいれば、トラブルに巻き込まれずに済むかもな。
※Tell you what. は、提案を行う前の合図として機能するフレーズです
※keep you out of trouble は目的語説明型 (SVOC) です。you = out of trouble に keep する、です。out of trouble は「トラブルの外にいる」ですね！
☆GRAMMAR AND VOCABULARY
大きなwh語
How hard can it be?
それはどのくらい難しくなりうるのですか？
この文では「大きなwh語」が使われている
wh語は、単体でも、あるいはこの文の how hard (どのくらい難しい) のように、複数語から成るフレーズでも使うことができる
how は、特に頻繁にこうした使い方で用いられるwh語
How old are you?
あなたはどのくらい年をとっているのですか？
How tall are you?
あなたの背の高さはどのくらいですか？
How much is that?
それはいくらですか？
など、たくさんの例がある
また、ここでは、疑問文が反語的な使い方となっていることにも注意
「それほど難しいはずはないでしょう」というニュアンスで使われている
can の潜在
That area can get chaotic.
そのエリアは混み合うことがあります。
先の文 How hard can it be? と同じ使い方の can
can は「潜在」を表す助動詞
この助動詞は「～しうる・時に〜することがある」と、潜在的な可能性を表すこともできる

単純な文だが、こうした文でもその場で瞬時に「英作文」をすることは難しいもの
しっかり音読・暗唱して覚えること！
①疑問文

一緒に行きましょうか？
Shall I ~? は助力を申し出る丁寧な表現 (6月号 Lesson 51)
意向を尋ねる疑問形を含む形には、
Would you like me to go with you?
私に一緒に行ってほしいですか？
Do you want some company?
つき添いが欲しい？ → 一緒に行こうか？
company は「一緒にパンを食べる仲間」という語源の単語
②可能であることを述べる
I can go with you, if you’d like.
よければ一緒に行けますよ。
「そうしてほしければ可能ですよ」という、相手の意向をくむ、やや丁寧な発言
I’d be happy to ~ (喜んで〜します)
の形も使える (6月号 Lesson 49)
③カッチリした表現
Would you like me to accompany you?
ご一緒しましょうか？
accompany は「～に同行する」、カッチリした動詞なのでフォーマルな場面ではとても使い勝手がよい
May I accompany you?
ご一緒してもよろしいですか？
Shall I accompany you?
ご一緒しましょうか？
☆PRACTICAL USAGE
[買い物に行くパートナーへ声をかけましょう。「ちょっと買い物に行くね」と言われて]
「一緒に行こうか？もう家の掃除は終わったんだ。外に出ている間、軽く何か食べるのもいいかもね」
【解答例】
You want some company? I’m finished with the house cleaning. Maybe we could grab a bite to eat while we’re out.
【解説】
・I’m finished は「終わった状態だ」ということ。ちなみに I’ve finished だと「ちょうど終えた」という行為となる
・Maybe we could ~ は「～できるかも」という軽い提案表現
