1⃣ 出張の後、同僚と空港に着き「妻が迎えに来るんだ。車で送ろうか？」と言われました。応答してください。
Coworker: My wife’s coming to pick me up. Do you want a ride home?
妻が（車で）迎えに来てくれるんだ。車で送ろうか？
You:
①それはたいへんご親切に、ですがこのあと夫と夕食を一緒にとる予定なんです。
That’s so kind of you, but I’ll be joining my husband for dinner after this.
・That’s so kind of you, but ~ と、相手の申し出をしっかり受けてから本論に入ること (Lesson 26)
・will be + 動詞-ing形は「～することになっている」 – これからの事態の流れを相手に客観的に説明している
②でも、しばらく奥様にもお会いしてませんね。機会があれば、いつかちゃんとぜひお話ししたいです。
It’s been a while since I last met your wife, though. I’d really love to catch up with her properly sometime when we have a chance.
**properly: ちゃんと、適切に
**catch up with ~: (しばらくぶりに) ～と会って話す
・It’s been a while since ~ (～してからしばらくたつ) は、丸ごと覚えること！
・would love to ~ (ぜひ〜したい) も重要フレーズ
2⃣ あなたは高校生。友人が「高校を辞めてインフルエンサーになる」と言っています。助言してください。
Friend: I’m thinking of quitting high school and becoming an influencer.
高校を辞めて、インフルエンサーになろうかなって考えてるんだ。
You:
①それは面白いけど、まず真剣に勉強して高校を卒業したほうが、チャンスが増える と思うよ。
That’s interesting, but I think you’ll increase your chances if you study seriously and finish high school first.
・That’s interesting, but ~ で、相手を否定せず受け入れる流れを作ることができればOK (Lesson 27)
②しっかりしたスキルや知識は、オンラインでフォロワーを増やしていく際に信頼性や選択肢を与えてくれるよ。
Solid skills and knowledge give you credibility and options while you build your followers online.
**solid: しっかりした
**credibility: 信頼性
**option: 選択
・while は「～している間」 – 2つの事態が同時進行していることを表す
・build your followers の build は「積み上げていく」感触で使われている。単に increase (数を増やす) でよいが、ちょっと深みが足りない感じ

O: Hey guys. Even if you don’t end up becoming an influencer, you can be anything as long as you have the solid foundation, right?
ねえ、みんな。たとえ最終的にインフルエンサーになれなかったとしても、しっかりした土台さえあれば、何にだってなれるよね？
D: That’s exactly right, sensei. It’s important to build a solid foundation.
まさにその通りだよ、先生。しっかりした土台を作るのって、本当に大切なことだよ。
R: Yes. And also, it’s really important to have backup plans, too. No matter what you do.
そう。それに、何をやるにしても、常に『バックアッププラン（予備の計画）』を持っておくこともかなり重要。
O: Oh yeah, exactly.
