☆GRAMMAR AND VOCABULARY
主語などを省略するカジュアルな言い回し
Heading straight home after school today?
今日は学校のあと、まっすぐ帰ってきますか?
今年度は、ネイティブスピーカーたちの気軽な言い回しを身につけるのも学習の大きな目標
日本語を思い起こせばわかるとおり、彼らは教科書に載っているような行儀のいい文ばかりを使っているわけではない
この文も Are you が省略されており、親しい間柄ではむしろ自然な言い回し
こうした言い方に慣れてくると、ますます英語が自分の道具になってきます。頑張って!
リポート文
She’ll remind me that you already got your allowance.
彼女は、あなたがすでにお小遣いをもらっていることを私に思い出させます。
この文はリポート文 – 動詞 (句) の後ろに節を並べその説明とする「説明ルール」の形
ここでは remind me (私に思い出させる) の内容が that 以下
この例のように、動詞句は2語以上になることもある。しっかりと文の形を理解しながら練習を進めること

☆ESSENTIAL EXPRESSIONS

(just) in case は「念のため」
不測の事態に備える定番表現
この例のように単独で使われる場合と、節を従える場合があり、単独の場合 just の使用が好まれる
接続詞 (~するといけないから・~の場合に備えて) として使われ、後ろに節を従える場合、just がなくてもOKだが、使ったほうが「念のため」感が強まる
Bring an umbrella (just) in case it rains.
雨が降るといけないから、傘を持っていきなさい。
不測の事態に備える表現は、ほかにもいろいろある
①to be on the safe side
Let’s leave early to be on the safe side.

もうひとつ、どうしても覚えたい単語、
precaution (用心・予防措置)

のように、フォーマルな文脈で使われる
③Better safe than sorry.
Let’s leave a little early. Better safe than sorry.
少し早めに出よう。念のため。
