1⃣ あなたは彼の誕生日にレストランで待ち合わせますが、遅刻してしまいます。謝りましょう。
Boyfriend: Hi. What happened?
You:
①遅れてごめんね。実は30分早くここに来てたんだけど、あなたへのプレゼントを職場に置き忘れたことに気づいてさ。
Sorry I’m late. Actually, I was here 30 minutes early, but I realized I left your present at work.
**late: 遅れて、遅刻して
**realize: ～に気が付く
・Sorry の後ろに節を加えて、何に謝っているのか、その理由を述べている (Lesson 33)
さらにその失敗の原因を相手が納得できる形で述べている。この気持ちが大切！
② 取りに戻ったんだ。それで…はい、これ。気に入ってくれるといいな！
I went back to get it. And…here it is. I hope you like it!
・Here it is. は「はい、どうぞ」 – 相手にものを差し出すときに使う定型句
・I hope you like it. はまとめて覚えること！よく使われる
2⃣ ガールフレンドから「もう私たちやっていけないよ」と別れを切り出されます。応答してください。
Girlfriend: …I’m afraid we can’t go on like this.
You:
①ごめん？何て言ったの？
Sorry? What did you say?
・「何て言ったの？」は、耳にしたことを信じられないときにも―日本語と 同様に―使える (Lesson 32)
②僕が昨夜メッセージを返し忘れただけで、僕と別れたいって言っているの？勘弁してくれ！
You’re saying you want to break up with me just because I forgot to text you back last night? Give me a break!
**just because ~: ～というだけで
**break up with ~: ～と別れる
・just because ~ は「～というだけで」という便利なフレーズ
・Give me a break! は「いいかげんにして・勘弁して！」という頻用表現
★Ending
O: Hey guys. I never forget to text someone back.
ねぇみんな。実は僕、メッセージへの返信は絶対に忘れないんだよね。
D: Oh, really? Why is that?
そうなの？それはまたどうして？
R: Because he never gets any texts to begin with.
そもそも、誰からもメッセージ来ないんでしょ (笑)
