☆Grammar and Vocabulary
① What did Sota think about me joining the shogi club?
動詞-ing形の意味上の主語
about の後の me joining the shogi clubでは、me が joining the shogi club の意味上の主語となり「私が将棋クラブに入る」と文的な内容を構成している。
動詞-ing形の意味上の主語は、my~ と所有格を使うこともできるが、その場合は、少しかたく響くことを覚えておくこと。
② That would be fun.
助動詞の過去形は「控えめ」表現
助動詞の過去形は、現在形の控えめバージョンとして使われることがしばしばある。
この文の would は will（だろう）の控えめ表現で、「でしょうね」程度の意味を表している。
この文の前では「練習対局をしよう」という提案が行われている。それを受けて「（それが実現したら）楽しいでしょうねぇ」と、一歩退いて控えめに述べているのである。
ここで will を使ってしまうと、「それは楽しいですね！」と提案が実現することを踏まえた現実的な見込みとなり、少々厚かましく響くので注意。

have no doubt は「疑いがまったくない・間違いない」で、強い確信を表す表現。
強い確信を表現することは日常しばしばあること。

I’m certain he’ll understand.
I’m convinced he’ll understand.
→ どれも強い確信を表す表現
sure は主観的な「きっとそうなる」
certain には客観性が感じられ、確信の度合いが高まる
convinced はさらに客観的な証拠が積み上がり、= completely certain の状態

He is bound to win.
→ be ~ to … の形。「これから」を感じさせる to不定詞とのコンビネーション。
bound は bind の過去分詞で「縛られた」で、
This train is bound for Nagoya.
（この電車は名古屋行きです）
といった使い方をする単語。電車が名古屋以外に行きようがないのと同様、「必ずそうなる」を表す

十中八九（ほぼ確実に）彼らは勝つでしょう。
→ 強い確信を表すフレーズ。In all likelihood は likely よりもはるかに可能性が上がります。 ちょっとかっこいい表現。
