★Opening
O: Hey guys. Can you tell the difference between “lighthouse keeper” and “light housekeeper”?
R: Of course!
D: Well, one manages a lighthouse and the other would be a skinny cleaner.

※come up, pull in, look up, come out と、苦手な句動詞が盛りだくさんでした💦look up は「調べる」の意味で覚えてましたが、文字通り「上を見る」の意味もありますよね。ちなみに、come up を辞書で調べたところ、意味がありすぎです笑 これはイメージで抑えるしかないですね！（全部覚えるのはほぼ不可能なので笑）

it は「受ける」単語

it は、this や that などのような「指す」代名詞ではなく「受ける」単語
最初の文では、前に出てきた the lighthouse を受けて「この辺りにあるはず」と述べている
日本語なら「この辺りのはずだね」と、わざわざ言語化しない要素が it である
ちなみに、
This is it coming up. は「さぁ、いよいよだ」と期待感・興奮を表す表現
it は「目的の場所・モノ」を漠然と示し、coming up は「近づいてきている」→ 期待感につながる
it はやはり、文脈から理解できるものを「受けている」
it ~ to …
It‘s hard to see well in this foggy weather.
it ~ to… が使われた文。この形は心に浮かんだ状況を it で「受ける」形
この文は、状況を受け「難しいんだよ」と文を始めている
そして、何が難しいのかを to 以下で説明し「よく見るのが、ね」となっている
心に浮かんだ状況を受け、it で文を始めてしまうのがコツ

曲げたり回したり、ひっくり返す動作
ここでは音量つまみが想像されており、つまみを回して音量を下げるということ
①回す

ハンドルを右に切って。
「回す」の例

など、head (頭) の向きにも使われる
②曲がる・曲げる

でも leaf (葉) は page の意味で使われており、それをひっくり返す

D: Well, one manages a lighthouse and the other would be a skinny cleaner.
一方は灯台 (lighthouse) の管理人で、もう一方は…skinny な掃除人（コンパクトな掃除機？）ってとこかな（笑）
☆Words & Phrases
**near: 近づく
**lighthouse: 灯台
Doug, could you turn down the music? I think we’re nearing the lighthouse.
ダグ、その音楽の音量を下げてもらえる？私たち、灯台に近づいていると思うな。
※we’re nearing は「近づいている」、near が動詞で使われています！
**sign: 標識、看板
**up ahead: 前方に
Slow down. See that sign up ahead? Turn right there.
スピードを落としてちょうだい。前のほうにある、あの標識が見える？あそこで右に曲がって。
**foggy: 霧がかかった
OK. It’s hard to see well in this foggy weather.
わかった。こんなに霧が出ていると、よく見えないね。
**around here: この辺、この辺り
**come up: 近づく、やって来る

そのまま進んで。この辺りにあるはず。あら、見えてきた。
**parking lot: 駐車場
**pull in: 駐車する

駐車場が見える。あそこにとめるよ。
**look up: 見上げる、(言葉などを) 調べる

**come out: 出てくる、外へ出る、姿を現す
**dramatic: ドラマチックな、印象的な、目に焼き付く

※come up, pull in, look up, come out と、苦手な句動詞が盛りだくさんでした💦look up は「調べる」の意味で覚えてましたが、文字通り「上を見る」の意味もありますよね。ちなみに、come up を辞書で調べたところ、意味がありすぎです笑 これはイメージで抑えるしかないですね！（全部覚えるのはほぼ不可能なので笑）

・decided to ~ は「～することに決めた」で、「これから」の to不定詞が、decide といいコンビネーションを作っている
・kick には「(悪習を) 断つ・やめる」という、カジュアルな使い方がある。quit を使ってもOK
・turn ~ around は「～を回転させる → ～をよい状態に向ける」
